One month ago today, I finished setting up my Mastodon instance and created this account.
A chance to try and connect with this changing world. A chance to learn some public discourse skills.
Looking forward - with some hesitation - to my first Mastodon upgrade. 😅

Dicen que lo perfecto es enemigo de lo bueno. El uso de mi empresa es la mejor forma he logrado dilucidar para operar esta comunidad. He leído muchísimas experiencias de comunidades del Fediverso que terminan cerrando por dificultades económicas y desgaste humano, eso no nos puede pasar a nosotros. Estoy abierto a construir junto con la comunidad mecanismos para que construyamos un espacio seguro, colaborativo y sostenible en el largo plazo.
Tengo mucho orgullo de lo que hemos logrado hasta ahora y me da ilusión lo que está por venir.

The Basics
We're a gaming-oriented server running the glitch-soc variant of Mastodon, so you get the Mastodon+ experience - everything you love about Mastodon but with lots of QoL tweaks, such as longer posts (up to 2048 characters!), rich text formatting brought to you by markdown, as well as lots of tweaks to make your experience in the fediverse a little nicer.
The Rules
We wish to run a friendly, kind and inclusive server, and do not have any tolerance for discrimination or bigotry of any kind, including but not limited to racism, ableism, homophobia and transphobia. It can be hard enough for people to be their true selves offline, let's not make it harder online too.
We also have no tolerance for the promotion or nazi, alt-right and ultra-conservative ideologies.
In the pursuit of accessibility, we ask users to add alt-text to their images for the advantage of those using screen readers to interact with us. However, we also do not tolerate abuse toward users who might forget to do so or aren't used to doing it yet.
Legal Status
All of our infrastructure and user data is held in Australia. We initially did hold some backup data in the USA for cost reasons, however in the wake of the US election result, and with the extreme risk those in vulnerable groups face, we made the decision to migrate this data back to Australia.

quick Mastodon question: is there an easy way for a user to get their account ID? The long string of numbers?
I have toot installed so I can simply do, e. g., `toot whois account@mastodon.example.com` and it prints it out, but is there a way to find it in the web interface?
Update: nvm found it it's `https://<server>/api/v1/accounts/lookup?acct=<username>`

Our uptime is fairly strong at around 99.8-99.95, however I'm still monitoring closely and making tweaks where necessary.

Apparently there is another SPAM wave, apparently only with Misskey servers?
Note that Misskey implemented a registration turn off switch when there is no moderators/admin online for 7 days, it will turn off registrations. Currently, there is no way to mitigate right now, so we proceeded to limit affected servers.

These servers have been limited with reject media turned on for those servers and temporary suspended on Sakurajima Social.

For now, you should probably temporarydisable notifications from people you don’t follow until we found a solution or the wave ends.
Hey #MastoAdmin / #FediAdmin folks, there's a spam wave happening.
They are using QR codes with random color schemes so you can't use blurhash filters. And there is no text other than username direct mentions
Spam usernames are random strings, on poorly moderated servers as usual
Anyone have recommendations for mitigation?
If you don't have an admin team that can handle properly auditing account registrations and dealing with reports quickly, I strongly recommend disabling open registrations on your servers for now
If you're running a Mastodon server jointly with other people, the admin can assign people roles (such as moderator etc) or create custom roles with specific privileges chosen by the admin. There is lots more info about this at:

This roles system can also be used to give your server's supporters a special profile badge, by creating a "supporter" role. You don't have to assign supporter roles any privileges if you just want to give people profile badges.

Nun ist es endlich so weit. Ich muss mir einen neuen Provider suchen, da mein Provider den Support für #dedizierteServer (d.h. #BareMetal) einstellt.
Wer ist der beste Anbieter für diese in #Deutschland?
Ich würde lieber auf Steintafeln schnitzen, als mich mit #Hetzner, #IONOS ( #1&1 ) auseinanderzusetzen oder darüber nachzudenken, #AWS-Preise zu zahlen. #Contabo sieht gut aus, will aber das Doppelte von dem, was ich derzeit zahle. #Hilfe!
